Are landlords going grey? Landlords have always been advised to decorate their rental properties in a clean simple style and to stick to neutral colours for walls and carpets. However landlords seem to be moving away from whites and magnolias towards a preference for a hint of grey.

Grey is right on trend in 2017. According a Vogue magazine article “it’s all about neutrals in the year ahead. “Whites, beiges, pale grays, camel, and blush pink are super on-trend,” designer Young Huh says.”

We have had landlords who have painted walls in their property grey and seen the property snapped up very quickly. Similarly, we are now installing all of our refurbishment properties with kitchen doors in light grey and have seen interest for these properties increase significantly. Why Grey?

The move from magnolia to grey is partly due to energy efficiency! Traditional tungsten bulbs give off a yellow light which is complimented by warm cream shades. Halogen, low energy and LED bulbs give off a much cooler light that suits grey interiors much better.

Crystal Edwards, director at New Mills Properties said, “Grey is certainly very popular at the moment. When it is teamed with white it gives a very crisp, clean, luxurious look and tenants can accessorise it with colours that suit them.”

We recommend grey with cool blue tones teamed with white for a more glamorous and luxury feel. For a warmer feel go for a grey that has a hint of red pigment in it.

Tenants are known to view several properties before finding the right home to move into. The property that has had a well chosen coat of grey is likely to create a good impression.
